About Our Company


Our History

Al and Carole Smith founded Area Wide Exterminators in 1979 in Stockton, California. Their goals were to be self-employed in a service industry that they felt could benefit from their attention to detail and customer service ethics. Al was well respected in the realtor industry and building trades. He knew he could make a difference in termite control; he had worked in the trade since 1968. In the State of California, two different licenses are required, one for Pest and one for Termite. One slight problem, Carole had a phobia where insects were concerned. But she has always believed that you face your fears, Carole was number three in the United States for recruitment and sales in the Skin and Health Care industry, so back to school she went. Fully licensed in their own expertise, both driven to give each customer a safe and healthy environment; they knocked on doors; answered the phone; sold; and did the work. Mom and Pop took on a whole new meaning. As their reputation grew for quality service, it allowed them to expand into surrounding cities. 

Meanwhile, Al and Carole realized that the best way to keep their family owned business strong was to team up with people who share their same philosophy.

Our Philosophy

Our company philosophy that binds every one of its employees together:

  • To create an environment for our employees that reflects honor

These objectives are the foundation upon which our entire service is built. We are dedicated to assistance to fellow citizens in need; to growth in ourselves, individually and growth together as a team.

Our Mission Statement:

We are the underdogs so we will make pest control services anywhere else unacceptable for consumers who value:

  • Punctuality
  • Personal attention

I have four very simple goals for AWE, that is called Key Result Areas or KRA’s nothing fancy and you can focus on them.

  1. Is profitability.
  2. Is retention of existing clients.
  3. Is attracting new clients.
  4. Is the most knowledgeable company.

At the end of each month these are the four questions that I ask of you.

  1. Did we make a profit.
  2. Did we retain our customers.
  3. Did we attract new customers.
  4. Did we fulfill our Mission Statement.

Goal:

To make Area Wide Exterminators a big company that has the nimbleness soul and passion and speed of a startup. To accomplish this, we need to believe that we are the underdog and that we need to prove that we can make it.
